The Brief
After moving into their new home the Tyler family discovered that although they loved the space of the existing kitchen, which had been put in by the architect who designed the original house, it was not to their taste. Therefore the new kitchen needed to keep the existing floor plan, but create a fresh new look. Also to be incorporated with a small office work station that was part of the kitchen without getting in the way.
The Solution
Taking inspiration from the space and existing floor plan, firstly it was improving the layout within these constrictions. We put in the tall bank with side by side ovens, fridge and larder right behind the island which brought all the kitchen cooking elements together. Next the old bulky extractor that hung down into the room was replaced with a sleek flush ceiling model. With the hob and the sink staying in a similar location on the island, changing the look of this island was going to be about finishes and colors. Therefore the modern high gloss handle-less units in white really did help to lighten up the room. With the 60mm thick built up Quartz breakfast bar spanning the four metre length of the island creating a contrasting feature. By adding in a two zone wine fridge on the far wall gave this extra section of worktop a purpose as drinks area, with cups and glasses to hand in the stylish lift up units above. Finally to make use of the end of this worktop area, a small desk was created, it blended in with the same materials to keep it discreet.
